Ordering Gourds for Gifts, Interior Decor, or Memorial Urms
The pictures shown on the website are samples of my original designs. Gourds come in many shapes and sizes. If you see a motif of mine that you are drawn to (or have your own idea), we can work together to create something to your liking. Because each gourd is unique, colors may not be matched exactly, but they can be closely approximated. I will try to meet your specifications for size, shape, color, and motif.
To order your gourd, phone me at 831-426-9780 or send me email at lizagourds@comcast.net
My gourds may also be purchased from the Many Hands Gallery in Santa Cruz.
Memorial Urns
The gourd urns are designed as memorial pieces to hold the ashes of your loved one, family member, friend, or pet. They are organic, sustainable and biodegradable. The design of the urns allow you the choice of scattering or burying the ashes, or providing an attractive and meaningful container for a long-term resting place, be it at home or in a mausoleum. The urns can open from the top, or from the bottom with a concealed opening. Gourd-urns that open from the top have a beautiful stone, bead and tassel closing. Each urn comes with a black velvet bag inside to hold the ashes. You may choose to have the ashes sealed into the gourd, or opt to use an adhesive at a later time. In addition you can order smaller gourds for keepsakes that relate to the motif of the larger urn you have chosen. Companion urns can also be designed.
These memorial urns are a recent addition to my gallery. After my mother died I created a memorial gourd urn reflecting my personal memory of her. She loved her persimmon tree, the shapes and colors of the fruit and leaves, and wanted her ashes spread underneath it. It was comforting for me to think of her while I designed and created a personalized art piece which allowed me a perpetual connection with her.
I have found that for those involved, the process of choosing or designing a piece of art that recalls fond memories of family, friends, or pets, evokes a quality of peace and acceptance in completing the cycle of life.
