In 1996, after 25 years working in fabric design, I found my calling with gourds and have since
developed a large international clientele base. I exhibit my work in galleries, stores and shows
throughout the country.
My husband and I grow most of our own gourds on the farm we share in the Santa Cruz Mountains of California, overlooking the Pacific Ocean. I do all of the original designing and art work myself, and my husband helps in completing the finished work for the urns.
Once I establish the design for gourd, the design is burned and carved onto the gourd. A natural rhythm and suggestion of motion appears in my patterns. By combining my unique granite-like textures and custom coloration techniques with the organic notability of each gourd, no two gourds are ever produced identically. It is finished with a five layer process of coloration and a layer of finishing polish.
